BARCELONA: La Liga leader Barcelona signed central defender Yerry Mina from Brazilian club Palmeiras with a $ 14 million transfer fee, the Spanish giants, today.
Mina, who is also Colombian national player, has made 33 appearances with Palmeiras over the last two seasons and helped his side win the league title in 2016.
The five-and-a-half-year contract has also won the Europa League-level Copa Sudamericana with his former club, Santa Fe.
"Yerry Mina joins Barca with a chance to keep up as a football player following his move to Europe.
"There is no doubt that this Colombian player has the potential to do it," Barcelona said in a statement on the club's website (www.fcbarcelona.com).
The 23-year-old talented young man is expected to strengthen Barcelona's defense machinery with media in Spain that veteran Javier Mascherano is approaching to join China's Hebei China Fortune club.
The Mina contract in Barcelona can be redeemed with a 100 million euro (RM476 million) clause. - REUTERS
