SPORTSO.GA , KABUL - A series of attacks launched by the Taliban in Afghanistan on Saturday (24/2/2018), killing at least 23 people and wounding dozens more.
Reported by AFP, at least three suicide bombings and militant attacks were reported on Saturday.
The casualties were mostly caused in an attack by Taliban militia groups into an army base in the west of Farah province, killing at least 18 members.
"A large army of militants attacked an army base in the Bala Buluk district of Farah, we lost 18 members and two others were wounded." "We are immediately deploying relief forces to the region," defense ministry spokesman Daulat Wazir said.
Deputy Governor Younus Rasooli said he had sent a fact-finding team to Bala Buluk to investigate the Taliban-claimed attack.
Previously, a suicide bombing occurred near the diplomatic area of Kabul, Saturday (24/2/2018) morning.
The attack, which took place at peak hours, killed at least three people and injured several others.
"The suicide bomber came on foot, dressed in tidy clothes and ties, identified at a checkpoint and detonated a bomb, killing three people," interior ministry spokesman Nasrat Rahimi told AFP.
Two other attacks were launched by car bomb in Nad Ali district and the capital of Lashkar Gah, Helmand province.
The first car bomb attack targeting a military base in Nad Ali killed two soldiers and wounded dozens of others.
Local government spokesman Omar Zawak reported that the attack on Nad Ali was using a Humvee car, but the car was destroyed before reaching the base using a rocket-propelled grenade launcher.
"The car was successfully prevented before reaching the military base, but two of our soldiers were killed and seven others were injured," Zawak said.
The second car bomb attack in Lashkar Gah targeted the National Security Directorate complex (NDS) and police headquarters. Seven people were injured. (AFP)
